Back pain: when should you see a physiotherapist?

Getting out of bed takes effort, your lower back aches by the end of the workday, and your search history reads “back pain — what do I do?” If that sounds familiar, you’re in good company. Back pain is one of the most common complaints that brings patients to us, and in the great majority of cases it is neither dangerous nor permanent. What matters is knowing when you can come straight to a physiotherapist, and when you should see a doctor first.

See a doctor first: the red flags

Most back pain is harmless, but a few symptoms need a medical check before any therapy begins:

  • numbness, tingling or weakness in your legs;
  • pain at night that doesn’t ease when you change position;
  • pain that started after a fall, blow or other trauma.

If any of these apply to you, get examined by a doctor first. In every other case, physiotherapy is a safe and effective first step — no referral needed.

Why movement beats bed rest

The old advice to lie down and rest has not aged well. Long stretches of bed rest weaken the muscles that support your spine, stiffen the joints, and feed the fear of moving — while the pain stays put. The modern approach is the opposite: measured, well-chosen movement reduces pain and helps the body repair itself. That’s why we work on the cause as well as the symptom — correcting how you load your back day to day, strengthening the muscles around it, and rebuilding your confidence in your own spine.

Results often come faster than people expect. Our patient Kristina couldn’t walk normally for two weeks because of back pain — and in her Google review she writes that she recovered after just two sessions.

What an assessment at PhysioHub involves

Your first visit starts with a conversation: where it hurts, when it flares up, what your workday and routine look like. Then your therapist runs simple movement tests to find out what triggers the pain and what eases it. From there you get an individual plan: sessions at the clinic, supported by BTL equipment where it helps, plus a few simple exercises for home — with your technique checked at every visit so they keep working.

Back pain shouldn’t be the thing that runs your week. Book a visit with the button below or call us on 599 43 83 33 — after the very first session you’ll understand what’s going on in your back and how we’ll fix it together.
